Lee has spent more than 35 years as an insurance broking professional, working throughout Asia and the South Americas. He has spent 9 years within the London market and the balance of his career dealing with complex Large and Specialised Risk in Asia. He has held senior positions with Alexander Howden, Leslie and Goodwin, Newman Martin & Buchan, Lambert Fenchurch, Heath Lambert Far East and HLAP Ltd. where he is currently the CEO.
Originally coming to Malaysia in 1993 he set up a joint venture for NMB and local partners called Sepakat Newman & Martin focusing on Marine, Energy and Reinsurance. He quickly built one of the Largest Hull portfolios in Malaysian insurance and added Energy Reinsurance Treaty capacity in excess of RM 500 million for any one risk.
Having developed an exceptional reputation for turning around non performing businesses he was brought in by Lambert Fenchurch AP (LFAP) to re-establish their local operations and support their Marine and Energy reinsurance operations around the region. In 2000 he was appointed Managing Director of LFAP, responsible for production of all technical and commercial lines reinsurance and the wholesale marketing & technical support to regional trading partners. In 2005 Lee was appointed Managing Director of Heath Lambert Far East, with offices and representatives in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, India and Singapore. Following an MBO in 2006 the company later changed it’s name to HLAP Ltd. and with a dedicated and committed team he successfully grew the account portfolio to over USD 20 billion (sum insured).
